Dell G15 5511 gaming laptop

Dell G15 5511 record-breaking notebook – 107W on the RTX 3060

Dell computers have always been good workhorses. But when it comes to performance, it’s hard to consider them as gaming devices. Despite decent “stuffing”, they can’t always pull off top gaming products.

With the Dell G15 5511, the company has tried to address such a shortcoming. It has equipped its development with relatively powerful iron, provided albeit standard, but nice design, and added a number of useful things for functionality.

Design and construction

The look of the Dell G15 5511 is similar to many other traditional working laptops. That said, it is slightly thicker and heavier. The laptop has a fairly standard dark grey chassis with a glossy black Dell logo in the centre, and a lone red letter G standing proudly to the side. Once the screen is up, you can observe the full-size keyboard, including the numeric keypad, which glows a soft blue when switched on.

Connectivity options are somewhat limited. There are 3 USB-A ports (one with PowerShare), one USB-C Thunderbolt 3/Display port in alternate mode, standard HDMI, Ethernet and a headset jack. These are all mounted closer to the rear panel.

Interior fittings and features

The unassuming chassis hides the Clydesdale of the computing world – a powerful working system. Powered by a 2.3GHz 11th generation Intel Core i7-11800H processor, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD, it’s more than capable of performing typical everyday tasks. It can handle far more demanding workloads.

The G15 5511 is a Gaming Special Edition notebook, so it has a few extra tricks. It has an nVidia GeForce RTX 3060 notebook GPU with 6GB of GDDR6 and uses a 15.6″ display with 120Hz and 1920 x 1080 resolution. This yields a steady 94 frames per second.

Gamers will also be able to use the same Game Shift technology as Alienware systems thanks to the inclusion of Alienware Command Center. This software will adjust the PC’s performance by increasing the fan speed. This lets you adapt to more aggressive use of the CPU and GPU.

Additional Features

The laptop includes WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5 and a pair of speakers. The performance of the graphics card is dependent on the amount of power it receives. The latter is allocated to the graphics chip. So the card can get up to 100W on average, but you need to keep an eye on the temperature, which can get up to 85 degrees in a matter of time of active work. The RAM is represented by two DDR4 cards. The frequency is 3200 MHz.

The laptop is quite easy to disassemble, but the build is quite decent. Getting “under the bonnet” you might be a bit confused. The processor, graphics card and also the cooling system are located under the keyboard. The mother board is on the other side. Because of this, it can be difficult to clean. Nevertheless, this arrangement does not spoil the performance and functionality of the notebook.
